Workshop on Women’s Rights Held at D.A.V. College, Women’s Commission Chairperson Warns of Strict Action Against Workplace Harassment

Dehradun, March 21, 2025: A one-day workshop on the prevention of sexual harassment at the workplace was organized at D.A.V. (P.G.) College, Dehradun. The event was inaugurated by Kusum Kandwal, Chairperson of the Uttarakhand State Women’s Commission, who issued a stern warning against workplace harassment and emphasized the strict legal actions that would follow any such incidents.

“Anyone involved in such misconduct should know that they will not be spared. Strict action will be taken against them,” she declared. She advised victims to first file complaints with the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) of their respective institutions, and if justice is not served, they should approach the Women’s Commission.

Women’s Commission’s Firm Stand

Kandwal highlighted that the Women’s Commission is committed to supporting victims and has formulated a comprehensive policy in Uttarakhand for the holistic development and protection of women. She also mentioned initiatives to provide legal assistance to women residing in remote areas.

Workplace Safety & the Role of ICC

During the workshop, teachers and staff were educated about the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court in the “Vishakha vs. State of Rajasthan (JT1997 (7) SC384)” case to prevent, prohibit, and address workplace harassment.

Anjana Gupta, Deputy Chief Probation Officer of the Women’s Welfare Department, elaborated on legal provisions and women’s rights.

 

D.A.V. College’s Initiative for a Safer Environment

Prof. Sunil Kumar, Principal of D.A.V. P.G. College, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to maintaining discipline and a safe environment. Prof. Savita Rawat, Chairperson of the ICC Committee, provided an overview of the committee’s role and functioning.

The event was hosted by Prof. Shikha Nagaliya and Dr. Pratima Singh and saw the participation of various educators, social activists, and students.
